Healthy Moms, Healthy Babies supports you in your pregnancy month by month and makes a host of benefits available to pregnant Arkansas women, including up to 14 covered prenatal visits, remote monitoring for glucose levels and blood pressure, remote ultrasound, mental health screenings and more.
Whether you need to confirm your pregnancy, get mental health support, access benefits like Medicaid or WIC, get your prenatal visits schedule or learn more about what to expect in your pregnancy month by month, it’s all right at your fingertips. Simply make an appointment at your closest Arkansas Health Unit for woman-first care, whether you have insurance or not.
Maternal Health Warning Signs You Shouldn’t Ignore
If you experience any of the below, it could be a symptom of a serious condition that could put you and your baby at risk. Call 911 right away.
- A Constant or Worsening Headache
- Dizziness or Fainting
- Sudden Changes in Vision
- A Fever of 100.4°F or Higher
- Extreme Swelling of Your Hands or Face
- Thinking of Harming Yourself or Your Baby
- Difficulty Breathing
- Chest Pain Accompanied by a Rapid Heartbeat
- Severe Nausea and Vomiting
- Severe Belly Pain
- Reduced or No Movement from Your Baby During Pregnancy
- Leg or Arm Pain or Swelling
- Vaginal Bleeding or Fluid Leakage During Pregnancy
- Heavy Vaginal Bleeding or Discharge After Pregnancy

Your First Prenatal Appointment at an Arkansas Health Unit
During your first prenatal appointment, the health unit staff will:
- Do lab work to confirm pregnancy
- Confirm your due date
- Ask about your health history
- Perform a physical exam
- Provide assistance signing up for Medicaid, WIC, SNAP and any other benefits you may be eligible for
- Discuss the rest of your prenatal visits schedule

All About Contractions
Call your provider if you have more than five contractions in one hour.
If your contractions are evenly spaced, last for 30-70 seconds and you feel discomfort as you move around, go to the hospital. You may be in labor.
